Aura Rainwater

“From Idea to Impact” highlights Austin-area businesses whose stories offer lessons in branding, digital strategy, and growth – elements foundational to my approach at Matilti Web Design. The series spotlights small business offer foundational lessons, experiences, and fresh perspectives to inform and inspire long-term strategy and growth of the local business community.

“Growth is like rain — it begins with one drop, then becomes a storm of opportunity.”

In this inaugural blog, I reached out to Alexander Williams of Aura Rainwater. Aura Rainwater is a premium hydration and sustainability company headquartered in Austin, Texas. He shared the origins of his company, community engagement, and three success factors to running a business. Initially, I met Alexander earlier this year when me and my kids (wife working late; no babysitter available 🤷‍♂️) attended an EGBI event at the City of Austin Economic Development offices (huge fan of both). He had been kind enough to hand out bottled water – with a smile on his face – to my young children for the trip back home. We spoke even more some months later as volunteers at a small business luncheon where we learned more about each other and our respective businesses. Typically, a bit guarded about forming friendships within a business context in my previous corporate life, I walked away completely inspired by Alexander’s brand, business philosophy, and, most importantly, his authenticity. Here is his story.

Can you tell us about your business and what inspired you to start it?

Aura Rainwater is a premium hydration company born from the belief that water should not only sustain life but elevate it. We capture pure Texas rainwater, refine it through a proprietary purification process, and deliver it directly to homes, offices, and events. The inspiration came during a late-night rainstorm in Austin, where I realized that the same rain that nourishes the earth could also nourish humanity — physically, mentally, and spiritually. Aura was born to reconnect people with the purity of nature and the consciousness of water.

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting your business?

Building a rainwater company from scratch meant overcoming skepticism, regulatory hurdles, and infrastructure costs. Convincing people that rainwater could be a premium, scalable product required education, storytelling, and proof of purity. We also faced the universal startup challenge — doing more with less — but turned that limitation into creativity and innovation.

How do you engage with the local community, and why is this important to you?

We engage through hydration partnerships, local festivals, school programs, and wellness events. Aura has sponsored Juneteenth celebrations, the State of Black Education, and community wellness activations — always using these platforms to teach hydration science and sustainability. Giving back through water is how we pour into the communities that pour into us.

What are three valuable lessons or success factors you’ve learned from running your business?

  • Purpose Over Profit: When your mission is rooted in purpose — like bringing sustainable hydration and awareness to communities — profits become a natural outcome.

  • Relationships Are the Real Currency: Every partnership, from universities to corporate wellness teams, builds the ecosystem that allows Aura to grow.

  • Resilience is a Daily Practice: Entrepreneurship is like water — it flows around obstacles. Staying fluid and adaptable has kept Aura thriving in unpredictable environments.

Lastly, what advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business in this community?

Start with service, not sales. This community values authenticity. Be clear about your “why,” build relationships rooted in trust, and don’t be afraid to start small. Growth is like rain — it begins with one drop, then becomes a storm of opportunity.

What began as a simple act of kindness—Alexander handing my kids a bottle of rainwater—ultimately led to a conversation about entrepreneurship, authenticity, and how purpose-driven businesses build community. His journey is a reminder that purpose, service, and authenticity are the true foundations of a thriving business—values I see consistently across Austin’s small business community and in my own work through Matilti Web Design.
